This pub has changed its name over the last few years and used to be The Lamb and then The Cross followed by Le Toad & Stumps. Under new ownership from a few years ago it is now entitled The Frog & Wicket. It is an attractive village pub overlooking Eversley Cricket pitch, which is apparently the oldest cricket pitch that is still played on in England. Eversley is the next village along from Yateley so not far to drive, although obviously not within my often cited walk home within Sandhurst range! The setting is a traditional country pub and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. There is a large garden for those sunny afternoons and the theme is fun and games: there are frequent live music events; a skittle alley; a cricket day; fireworks/Halloween parties and charity fund raising events.
The menu is mainly traditional pub food, but with a continental feel to it. Our meals were freshly cooked and very tasty with generous portions and at a fair price. Saturday food is now served all day until 9pm and Sunday roasts until 6pm followed by a cheese board until 9pm. It is very much suited for a quick business lunch or a gossipy girlie luncheon or a family outing during the evening or at the weekends. There is a good selection of beers and wines for those just wanting a sunny drink outside or a beverage in a fire warmed cosy pub during winter.
Despite not being able to walk home this is one that I will be returning to!
